People Drink One Glass of Water a Day or Less, a Survey Has Found

A survey has found that people are avoiding pure water as their drink of choice, and are more often attracted to smoothies and other sugary drinks found in kitchen fridges and shops. As a result, thousands of people across the country are crowding doctors' offices and complaining about fatigue. One in five patients reports about this condition, showed a survey of 300 doctors.

Experts agree that the main cause of fatigue is dehydration. People often think that drinking coffee or tea is enough, and that drinking only when thirsty is okay. The survey also tried to shed light on whether people drank water at mealtimes like they once did.

"When I grew up there was always a jug of water on the table. Schools have a habit of doing that, but a lot of people have got out of the habit. They expect to drink something else. A lot of older people restrict their water intake because they don’t want to keep going to the toilet," said one of the researchers.

Experts warn that an average adult should drink between 1.6 and two liters of water a day. The survey has found that only 4 percent of the doctors thought their patients were consuming enough water. The sad truth is that a lot of people consume one glass of water a day, or even less. People are instead spending a lot of money on energy drinks, juice, smoothies or other artificial beverages.
